Each summer, Break Away selects current students and/or recent graduates to join and support our small staff in the preparation and execution of our Actively Building Community Solidarity (ABCS) conferences and other programming efforts. Individuals selected to be Break Away Interns will have the opportunity to work on multiple projects, such as building curriculum, event planning and management, content creation, and serving as peer support for student leaders at the ABCS.

Individuals selected to be Break Away Program Interns will have two main areas of focus: Facilitation & Training and Conference Preparation. The internship includes serving as a facilitator during our three Actively Building Community Solidarity (ABCS) conferences, which will take place in-person and virtually. Interns also have the unique opportunity to assist in conference development - building partnerships with local community organizations, developing curriculum and logistics, practicing event planning and management, and supporting the behind-the-scenes operations of the ABCS.

The duration of the internship is the second week of May - early August, during which time Programs Interns will work remotely + travel to our in-person ABCS location. Break Away will grant a modest living stipend, cover travel costs, and provide shared housing. In addition, Break Away will incur all expenses (food, transportation, and accommodation) for Programs Interns during the ABCS in-person conference. Up to three interns will be selected from the applicant pool.

Community Engagement experience is required for all applicants and prior attendance at the ABCS is preferred.
